| “All labor that uplifts humanity has dignity and importance and should be undertaken with painstaking excellence.” – Martin Luther King, Jr. Harriet Vaughan is President of the Nashville Association of Black Journalists, committed community servant, staff manager, public relations specialist and formally trained multimedia journalist. She has traveled around the country since high school, delivering some of the nation’s top stories for some of the most respected news organizations such as Scripps Howard News Wire Service, CBS News and Fox Network News. Not only has she positioned herself to be the best in the business, but she continuously works to merge her use of the Spanish language with the future-forward field of news. Harriet has covered some of the nation’s biggest stories. She was embedded with the Red Cross on the front lines of Hurricane Katrina as the storm roared through. In 2006, Harriet became one of the first journalists in the country to ask the now Secretary of State, Hillary Clinton about her plans to run for the 2008 presidency. In 2008, she broke media barriers by crossing into new journalism territory. After working seven years in television as a reporter, anchor, associate producer and assignment editor, she joined The Tennessean newspaper as a reporter. Since joining the paper that reaches more than 619,000 homes every week, she has written stories for print and online. Additionally, she has shot video and edited it to be posted to the company’s website. She embraces Social Media with tenacity and a fervent desire to frequently engage readers wanting up-to-the-minute news updates and immediate information. Harriet has another fete to add to her cache of accomplishments. She works feverishly as a Public Relations Specialist and Media Advisor for businesses, organizations and individual clients. She employs her years of journalism experience to develop comprehensive marketing and media campaigns that embody the spirit of the client and protect the company’s said brand. When Harriet is not hunting down the latest story or helping a client get maximum media exposure she is working tirelessly in the community. She has been nominated and awarded several humanitarian awards. She spends her free time serving as Spokesperson for the YWCA domestic violence shelter of Nashville, TN. Harriet has accepted multiple invitations by Tennessee State University to speak to various journalism classes. She hopes that by serving as a voice for the community and by working in the community, she can make a difference in her hometown of Nashville. |
